Why does my N wireless adapter not run as fast as it should

I bought a Belkin N Wireless router and adapter and for some reason my adapter does connect at the high speeds it says it should. When I first bought it i was getting a very good connection running at 148 Mb now its between 24-48. Does anyone know why?

Experiment with different wireless channels -- the frequencies work better or worse depending on environs.

If you can spot neighbouring wifi systems, maybe one recently installed is interfering -- select a channel 5 stops from strongest neighbour.

Relocate cordless phone base, video sender etc away from computer or router.
