Why does my PC freeze?

Hi all,

I only recently build my own PC. All components in the system are new. Below are my specs:

PSU: Seasonic S12II Bronze - 620W
CPU: Intel Core i5-6500
Memory: GSkill 32GB RAM (2 x 16GB)
Motherboard: ASUS H110M-A
Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212x
HDD: Western Digital 1TB Blue

I am still using my laptop as I need to perform some test on the PC before actually transferring all my data to the PC and finally shifting to the PC.

Today, I was just exploring certain things in the BIOS of the PC I built when suddenly the PC freezed. I had to shut down and restart it. This made me really upset because I think that freezing should not occur, unless there is a faulty component.

Do you guys think that the motherboard may be faulty? Or the PSU?

Please let me know your thoughts. I need to know which component is responsible for this!

Regards

Solution
Yes because the bios is housed inside the motherboard. It has nothing to do with hard drives or the applications installed on them. This is generally not a big deal as newly released motherboards have "kinks" that need to be "ironed out", which is why manufacturers are constantly pushing bios updates.

Did any other freezes occur recently or it was just that one?

There are lots of factors that can make a PC freeze. OS (Softwares) included, not really only related to Hardware issues.
Therefore, it could just have happened because the OS entered in a not treated exception and then it stopped working. Not much you can do, bugs you know? They will always be there.

If the freezing are recurrent then maybe it's the Hardware, but i highly doubt it as Hardware related freezes normally gives a little bit more of info on it. Like CPU usage, Temps, Disk usage, etc. If you are really upset, try to monitor your PC to see if there's anything unusual going on.

So, my opinion is that it was just an OS error, probably won't happen again soon.

Thanks for your reply. Actually, my PC freezed in the BIOS, while I was exploring the BIOS options, not after the OS has been loaded. Had it freezed in the OS, I would have said the same thing as you, but it freezed in the BIOS! You still think it is not hardware related?

Well, then this is a whole new scenario. But BIOS still a program... well, who knows?

In you case, i'd make sure every piece of hardware is seated properly and clean.
Maybe it was just unlucky to do that? If it becomes recurrent then maybe somethings wrong but i wouldn't put the cart before the horses. Don't fret on it as longs as it isn't impacting the usability.

Only one time this happened. For the rest of the time, everything was fluid. Maybe you are right, it was unlucky to happpen.

You think there might be a problem with the motherboard?

Do you think the problem with the motherboard is hardware or software (i.e BIOS)?

There's no way of knowing until you make sure you bios is on the latest version.
