Why does my PC screen have a blck frame when I plug in a VGA cable?

I have a compaq tc4400 tablet. It was recently updated to word 2010 and since then it gets a black frame around the screen when I plug it into a VGA cable....I can't use the tablet feature because it won't calibrate! Help please!

You might need to set the screen resloution up when it's connected to the VGA cable, right click on your main desktop and choose properties.
