Question Why does swapping memory stick positions affect XMP stability? Or Overclocking too?

OK, so I was trying to get an XMP kit to work like 3 times (reseating, air-dusting, etc.) and it didn't work. Crashed right away or shortly after Windows login.

I decided to swap positions of the 2 sticks and whoa! Works perfectly, passes MemTest86 4 cycles, etc.

It's this, if that matters.
Neo Forza MARS 32GB (2x16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 4400 (PC4 35200) RGB SDRAM Desktop Memory Model NMGD416E82-4400GF20 - Newegg.com

Interestingly, prior to the above installation, I mixed the sticks from 2 kits as an experiment and it worked. I didn't record which of those prior sticks wasn't here now though. Or whether it was in A2 or B2 for that matter.
