Why does the DVI-D Dual Link Cable only do 1400X900 resolution?

I have a very old, 10 year old Samsung SyncMaster 940bw monitor. I know I need to get a new monitor with hdmi and display port. But the 940bw can still display 1080p 60hz for its 10 year old age, that is impressive. The 940bw can display 1080p 60hz through SVGA or Super VGA. I bought a super vga cable from amazon and it can display 1080p 60hz. While the Amazon Basics DVI-D Dual link cable can not display 1080p 60hz, no 1080p at all, Just 1400X900. Why is that? Why does the super vga cable display at 1080p 60hz and the DVI-D dual link cable can not display 1080p 60hz?

Solution
If its a 1440x900 monitors than it was just downscaling. It can't display higher than it physically can. The edid could have just been not recognized correctly and giving res options that aren't native.

I was using a Super VGA cable and thats how the 940bw was able to display 1080p.

So downscaling is not true 1080p? Just Because the monitor shows it displays 1080p with Super VGA Cable does not mean it is true 1080p?

Pixels are tiny little lights and it has 1440x900. You can't magically add more pixels to the monitor. You could send a higher res signal but you still only see 1440x900 because that is how many the monitor has. Also as a mentioned before, they are different aspect ratios so stretching will occur.
