Hello this computer lags on games such as assassins creed 3 and Rome 2. Pleas could you give me any advice ?
FX-8150 8 core 3.6 ghz
8 GB RAM
500GB Hard drive
GTX 650 ti boost 2gb
32 inch monitor 1360 *768
windows 7 home premium 64 bit .
On games like Rome 2 even when standing still i will run really smooth for about 30 seconds then get 5 seconds of 10 to 20 fps drop, then back to normal? i dont under stand why i have scanned for viruses i still have 200 gb of disk sapce left ? pleas can someone explain to me ? My Skype if you need to message quick is UBX Monster
Or Steam Julius Caesar and my pic is a old painting? Thanks

Likely the CPU. Those games are decently heavy CPU games and at that low resolution your GPU is not struggling for high settings, so your CPU will be the limiting factor. The 8150 is not great and was quickly replaced by AMD with the 8320 because of this.

What settings are you playing at? Try lowering them and see if it helps. If this happens on ALL settings, you could have a CPU/GPU overheating issue.

Yeah, i have dont this before to try it and i am positive it is installed correctly :( So will a new cooler and a cool processor stop the fps drop ?

Honestly 82c is not acceptable for the stock fan. It should never go up above 60.

There is another problem. You could try a different cooler, but changing coolers will not cure this. I have a Phenom 2 x4 BE 125tpd CPU running on the stock AMD cooler and it never goes above 60 under full load.

Sometimes the stock fans come defective. Intel had their fair share and ruined the lives of few...i gotta change mine because it's super old and all it does is attract dust...but he should give his airflow a good check...

Just because a cooler is old, does not make it any more liable to attract dust.

If the fan is spinning then it is not defective.

There is another issue here. You can try a better cooler but I guarantee even if you get the temps down to where it won't throttle, it will still be far too hot and cause damage to the CPU.

I recently helped a guy who had the stock intel cooler and it wasn't seated correctly. He swore it was correctly installed.

OP if you have removed the cooler before, did you also remove the thermal paste and apply new paste CORRECTLY?

By old i mean worn out...it rarely keeps my cpu under normal temps...but it serves me well.

Yeah you're probably right, but still get the random frame drop and it gets annoying...i might invest in some filters and thermal paste along with the remover and purifier...i just wish i had a better place to store my comp.

I don't know what the TDP is on that processor, but some of those AMDs are space heaters and should be running a third party cooler. There have been sime good suggestions made such as checking to make sure the cooler is seated properly. One thng you may want t check when this is happening, is to see how much processor is being used at the time. You could have stuff running in the backgraound that would cause the processor to run at or near 100% , which will run the temp up.

Dude, we do not know. It might. But, if the problem is the CPU itself, you may be out of luck. Honestly, if you cannot get the temps below 80c with a properly pasted and installed stock cooler, I do not think an aftermarket cooler will help. You have bigger problems.

It goes to about 60 but why should it with 8 cores ?
