Why does Youtube slow down every night?

I have a great ISP where I live, 55mbps right now, and yet videos on Youtube struggle to buffer around night time. Finding that it ends up switching to 240p only to still have issues. Yet Netflix can stream HD videos with no issues at all.

Is this some sort of high density traffic issue on Youtubes side? Or something that I need to fix myself?

Most likely it's just heavily loaded YouTube servers, esp. if other equally demanding services like Netflix are running smoothly, and it only happens during peak usage hours.
