My windows 8.1 phone reports no memory card found when I insert a 32Gb Samsung EVO microSDHC UHS-I card

Check your phone's specifications to see what max capacity & type of card it supports as I think it very probable you are trying to use an incompatible one (you may have to go to the manufacturer's website to get the information you need).

As a quick test, try a standard 4GB microSD card first and if that works okay, it means the Samsung card is incompatible with your phone because of it's high capacity or specification.

It's best to avoid cards with very high specs, high-capacity, and fancy letters like "UHS-I" where phones are concerned, unless you know for sure from the phone maker that it's compatible.

A card like that was designed for a high-performance DSLR camera I reckon.
