Why doesn't my Windows Vista have Ahci mode?

Iv'e been wanted to install Windows 7 onto my computer but in doing so I've been told that I need to switch my Sata mode on the bios to Ahci. When trying to do exactly that, I came to find out that I only have IDE and RAID. Why doesn't my computer have a Ahci mode?

RAID will engage AHCI.

If you can list the motherboard maker and its model number fitted inside the case then I will have a check on how you set it up.

Or are you trying to install on a laptop?
If so also list it`s make and model number.

I used the mode RAID, and it in fact did engage Ahci but it left me on a screen when trying to boot the CD

Is the CDROM set as the first boot device?
You should also have only the drive upon which you intend to install Windows connected.

Yea CDROM is indeed set as the first boot device... I think I might just wipe everything and just install it like that. Would that work?

It should. However, there's no guarantee. There might be other system issues at work here.

I'll just wipe everything. If it doesn't work I can always re-install Windows Vista
