Why don't some add-on A/C work as AI in FS9?

I've noticed that a lot of third party A/C (ones that fly
and display beautifully in external views) will not function
as AI traffic. Is this a common problem? With a simple fix?

I have added them all into my A/C database with TTools, and have
been very careful to do all that properly, and have added plenty of
examples of all types of parking (with Afcad) at my test airports.

Anybody had the same problem, and/or have a clue as to a solution?
Thanks.

Usually 3rd party aircraft authors will advise if the aircraft is AI
friendly. A lot of them are so detailed that it would bog your system down
if used as AI. Also I believe the aircraft has to be made with Gmax to work.

If there is a problem, this is where it would be. I would have to know
exactly how you did that before I could verify if it was correct. But like
Bill said, if they weren't intended for AI your Sim could turn in to a
slide-show.

Thanks for the reply,
I've been extra careful to double-check for simple errors, and
I usually copy the AC name fron the "title" line in the aircraft.cfg
file, and paste it into the (decompiled) aircraftXXXXX.txt file for
TTools. I have noticed that many of the planes that do not work
have a comma in the title, could that be a problem?
Thanks again.

Hmm,...I'm not sure. I hadn't run into that nor thought of it. I guess it
could be something to check into. You could rename in in the Aircraft.cfg
and match it in the aircraft_*.txt file and see what happens.

Thanks Bill,
I have had some system boggers working as AI and I usually use
them sparingly. Maybe its a blessing that some of the reeeeal
purdy ones don't work!

As for the Gmax thing, I do have some Gmax created planes that
do not work, but I cannot say that I have non-Gmax planes that DO
work So it could be true that only Gmax planes will work, but I think
I have different problems.
There is so much available I'm sure I can find substitutes.

Yeah, after discovering them I deleted most of my AI flightplans and
installed theirs instead. Pretty wide coverage, fairly realistic, good
frame-rates, reasonably detailed: my only complaint is that some of the
textures are a little low-res (most obviously British Airways), but you
only really notice if you get close to the planes on the ground.

But at least I get 15-20fps at Heathrow rather than the 3-10fps I was
getting before :).

In the event you do not have or know about these, let me recommend two great
free AI tools:

1) AITM2 for FS 2004. Works with TTools in the background and builds all
your plans thereby reducing chances of errors
http://www.molitor-home.de/FS/AITM

2) Project AI. Excellent freeware real world airlines for AI with an easy to
use install program. AFCADs also available to make your airports work
better. I just love this group

I agree. Even if you are not adding plans, it provides a great
facility for editing the ATC related lines of aircraft.cfg.
