They don't believe that is a feature that is a discriminator for most people. 99% of users are more worried how easily it is to setup and if they can get their Chromekey to easily connect.
IDS/IPS is a niche feature that businesses may want but home users generally don't. I don't think Google is targeting the small business market with their router.

If you think it is a basic security feature you are far far behind the times. Did you not notice that many of the companies that made these devices are merging or reporting less sales. Many are now trying to sell into the consumer market as a last chance to save themselves.

All these devices are dependent on the ability in intercept and analyze packet data. That time is long gone. All traffic is now https encrypted and everything runs from virtual data centers. Very soon if you have followed the news chrome will even plug the last hole and go to encrypted DNS.

All future solution will have to reside on the servers before any encryption takes place.

IPS or IDS basically a network security feature in the router. Nowadays technology evolved so much and all the browser comes with built-in security feature like https encryption, privacy protection, popup blocking. one can also install a VPN to secure the router. Google thinks IPS or IDS is not a necessary security feature nowadays.... I got this information from a facebook page...
