[SOLVED] why has my mac slowed down

hi
ever since i Upgrade to OS X Yosemite my mac has slowed down. even when i tried to shut it down it didnt the top nav bar dissappeared and then it froze and when i came back the next day it was still the same and i had to force shut done by holding the power button. any idea why this is ? i need the laptop for work.

I would backup all your file, then do a fresh reset

What are the specs of your laptop?

It's very common for any OS to need more resources after an update. New functions new layout etc... it normally needs more power.

Maybe your HardDrive is getting a bit overloaded? Do you have a bit of space left?

But like MAMAMIA said a fresh install would be better.
