Why hasn't MS come up with a fix for this?

"Failure configuring Windows Updates, reverting changes. Please do not turn off your computer"

It downloaded and attempted to install twice now, It's in the middle of reverting back for the second time.

What a pile of poop this OS is, they should hotfix this issue. No updating should do this kind of crap. Fail once, ok, fail over and over again? That's a problem.

It has done that for me a few times with windows 7 updates, but after a few more tries, it either fixed itself, or stopped trying. Either way, I haven't had a problem since. (Besides that new crap that MS is giving in the new updates)

Well now that it's done "reverting" I was reading on an official MS forum that I should download the Windows Installer Diagnostic and run then, and then install updates 8-10 at a time rather than the 100+ I was doing previously. I will update here my results when I've done this and let everyone know if this is a viable tactic.

EDIT/UPDATE: Didn't download the diagnostic, but I am downloading 8-10 updates at a time and it seems to be working now. If that's a limitation in the update process Win8 should do this behind the scenes and allow me to download only compatible updates and in the order they're supposed to be installed.

Can't wait to move on to 8.1

Just another update, I've now restarted my computer about 40-50 times tonight, now I'm down to the last 12 "important" update and I'm down to installing them 2 at a time. I tried to download and install 5 at once, and it failed.

All I know is when I would install updates on 7 if you downloaded 50 updates and 2 failed at least the other 48 would have installed... not true for Win8...

The amount of hate I have for this OS is enough to cause my blood pressure to rise and give me chest pain. There simply aren't enough profane, vulgar or explicit vocabulary on the planet to spit at this OS. So I'm saving it for if I ever meet Bill Gates face to face. Never again. If I get through with this at some point it would be nice. But no, now I think I'm going to have to install each update individually.

I should be able to sue MS for the cost of the wear and tear on my hardware such repeated restarts cause and it's all because they've abandoned Win8 entirely.

The fix for this is to abort Win8 in favor of Win8.1 or 10 directly. Never again....

I believe there was a free update to windows 8.1 for 8 users, and now there is also a free upgrade to windows 10.

(͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Right, but before it let me go to 8.1 I had to download all the 8 updates. I got through it. I went from 7 Home Premium SP1, to Win 8 Pro, to 8.1 Pro, to 10 Pro, and the only hitch in that upgrade process was while I was on 8. Frustration isn't even the right word for what I felt and still feel about 8, I'm just glad I'm past it.

If you wanted a clean install of 10 Pro using 7 home and 8 pro upgrade, all you had to do is:
1) Put 7 Home on the disk
2) Go to http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media and make a 8.1 installer
3) Use that installer to upgrade from 7 home premium to 8 pro (you can even do it with disk reformat if you want)
4) Go to http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install and make a windows 10 installer
5) Use that installer to upgrade from 8 pro to 10 pro
6) (optional) Use that installer again after 10 pro is installed and activated to do a clean Win 10 install

You actually don't need the updates unless you are planning to keep files and programs from 7 all the way to 10 pro.

"You actually don't need the updates unless you are planning to keep files and programs from 7 all the way to 10 pro."

That is what I ended up doing, just upgrade not clean install and having all of my files/programs was really convenient, no issues at all. Had a lot of stuff to cleanup with CCleaner afterwords, several gigs of Windows Updates to purge, but otherwise went smoothly. Once I got past 8 and their stupid updates that is.
