Why HP desktop will not bootup

Was doing a disk cleanup a dialog box kept popping up about automatic updates, did I want to restart now or later and after several hours cancelled out of disk cleanup and try to perform the restart. when the restart process started screen went black and nothing happened.
Computer would not boot up. I need some directions to get my computer up and running again.

would appreciate any assistance you can give.

It is possible that the OS got corrupted in the process. Do you have the re-installation disk(s) that came with the computer?
