Why install PSU with the fan side facing down?

Hi, it seems that this may be a general practice. I am installing Cosair AX1600i PSU to Dark Base Pro 900 Rev 2. Am I correct that I put the face with the big fan down touching the base of the case? Why? Isn't it better to have the PSU fan facing upward since there are more empty space inside the case?

Thanks for the interesting article. Since the case has a mesh/filter at the bottom, the fan of the PSU should be pointing down.
