Why is a 980ti better than a 1060?

The GTX 980ti has a core clock of 1102mhz (the one im looking at does at least) whereas the GTX 1060 has a core clock of 1594mhz.

So even though it has a higher clock speed on a benchmark the 980ti preforms better and i was wondering why? The only reason i can think of with my severe lack of knowledge is that the 980ti has more stream processors.

Solution
More CUDA Cores, which are Nvidia's stream processors more or less.
Also has better rendering due to its stronger texture performance.
This in combination with the fact that it shares the same board with the Titan X, meaning that the PCB will be miles better than the budget oriented PCB on the 1060 makes it the better card.
More power phases, more memory, more everything. :)
Simplified, but hope this clears things up.
