Why is a game like doom less ping dependent than call of duty

in doom's multiplayer i have the same ping disadvantage that i have in call of duty , but there's only a slight delay and everything seems to be working for me just like the other players , but in call of duty you can never really play with a ping of above 100 ms , why is that , is it the game design , or something beyond that ?
 
Solution
Depends on how the Net-code has been implemented, id would say that it interperates your movement and predicts where you will be to other players, nothing to do with the network really more to do with the programming.
