[SOLVED] Why is it taking so long to upload pictures from SD Extreme Pro card to HD?

Hi,

Newbie here: New Camera/New User. So I apologize in advance.

I've taken photos with camera (Canon 6D), using SD Extreme Pro card.

It is taking forever to upload: 97 files, 1.42GB, 198kb/sec, indicating 8 hours. As the photos are uploaded these numbers change, increasingly getting a little faster. There are currently 29 files remaining with these numbers: 688kb/sec with 10 minutes remaining. Overall it's taken about 40 minutes or so to get this far. Can anyone tell me what is going on? Where is the 95MB/sec or even part of it?


These are my computer specs, but the card reader isn't even listed. Is there a place I can find tech specs of card reader if this info is needed?

I would not suspect the SD card per se

Does your computer have a dedicated slot for SD cards?

What hardware and software are you using to transfer photos from the SD card to the target destination drive?

Where is that drive located?

Hi,
I'm using Windows Explorer to 'copy' from a dedicated card reader slot that is build into the computer. I'm copying to the internal Hard Drive (not SSD). I'm not using a USB, although I do have a 3.0USB available.

Are you able to identify the SD card reader installed in the computer?

Look in Device Manager under Universal Serial Bus Controllers. (My system lists a Realtek USB 2.0 Card reader.) Right click the device to delve into the properties.

If so, updating the driver may help. For example:

My suggestion is that you identify (per @USAFRet) which USB ports on your PC are are 3.0

Then, if at all possible borrow, two or three SD adapters from family, friends, fellow photographers. Ensure that the adapters truly support USB 3.0 and likewise for any USB connecting cables that might be used.

Try the adapters and see if the transfer speeds improve or can be improved.
