Question Why is it that my RAM is under performing so much?

It looks like it's a 1600 MHz kit but it's only running at 1333 MHz. That'd be the biggest factor. Also, older AMD CPUs had relatively poor memory controllers IIRC, so if there are a bunch of results for that RAM with Intel CPUs that could also make your score worse in comparison.

so is there a point to having this much ram?

My main purpose is to edit videos, so I figured I should get more ram.

I guess it depends on how serious you are about video editing performance, but that's a low-ish budget.

The cheapest I could find with a quick look on Newegg that I think would be decent is this: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834850877&ignorebbr=1
With an extra 8GB of RAM added (would be best to check the speed/timings of the RAM that's installed once you get it an get a matching stick). Total cost should be right around $500.

If you're willing to get a refurb there are some cheaper options. Basically, I'd get either an Intel CPU or AMD Ryzen (older AMDs kinda suck), at least 4 cores, with ~16GB of RAM (could possibly add extra RAM yourself). Some of the refurb units have older CPUs that use DDR3, in which case you could potentially use some RAM from your current laptop to add to a new one to get to 16GB (although there can be compatibility issues when combining different RAM sticks).

Thanks for the help. I've been looking around for the past few days and was wondering if this would be a good laptop if I just switched out the hdd for a ssd.
