Question Why is my 24gb RAM capped at 13 GB while gaming.

Hello,
I have LENOVO T590 (model 20N4S0TJ00 ) with 1x 8GB DDR4 2400 soldered on the motherboard.
I immediately installed an additional 8GB RAM stick, using Lenovo compatible RAM.
Crucial 8GB DDR4-2400 SODIMM - CT8G4SFD824A

After some time I understood, that RAM is a bottleneck, and being constantly loaded to 90-100%, I decided to change the additional RAM stick to 16GB.
(again using Lenovo compatible RAM)
Crucial 16GB DDR4-2400 SODIMM - CT16G4SFD824A

Now, while I'm playing RUST it shows it is capped exactly at 13GB.
See Screenshots.

  1. Windows is updated, Drivers, even BIOS updated.
  2. Tried turning off the Page file, performance got worse.
  3. Tried to change Maximum memory to 24GB in SYstem Configurator, no success.
I noticed that the Game itself stops using more than around 8.5 GB of RAM, if I open Chrome + Youtube + other apps, the Total RAM consumed grows to 17 GB.
See screenshots.

How can I fix this?
I want the game to be able to utilise RAM to the max.

The game will only use the amount of RAM that it needs. Not all the RAM available.

And it will also use whatever virtual memory is needed so you must allow the system/Windows to manage Virtual Memory. Although Virtual Memory is configurable doing so is generally not necessary. Turning off the Page file very likely does make things worse. Just let Windows handle that.

Try Resource Monitor and Process Explorer to take a look at what all else is going on.

You may need to download Process Explorer (free from Microsoft).

Don't do that. You'll get virtual memory subsystem related errors.
Tried to change Maximum memory to 24GB in SYstem Configurator, no success.
Don't do that. This only sets limits for available ram.
Can be used for testing, how your system will operate with lower amount of ram available without physically removing ram from system.
Under normal usage there's no point in using these options.
How can I fix this?
There's nothing to fix. Everything is working as it should.

THANKS for the thorough explanation!
So, it seems RUST cant be able to use more than ~8 GB of RAM.
I basically wasted 70 USD :D.
