Question Why is my 8GB RAM laptop showing I only have 4GB RAM after a BIOS update ?

I used the Asus Support site to upgrade my BIOS and it restarted and installed automatically (from BIOS version TP412UA.307 to TP412UA.308).
Now my PC says I have 4GB of physical RAM even though I had a full 8GB before. My machine is also significantly slower.

No, I did not upgrade the RAM. The internal RAM is 4GB plus the card it makes up 8GB. I now have to open up my machine and reseat the RAM card to get the full 8GB every time I restart.
