why is my bus speed only 266 mhz on my dual core cpu. its a dual core and thus not quad pumped. some one said it is 266x4=1000mhz fsb.... but my cpu has only 2 cores. 266x2=500mhz, not 1000mhz. tell me the mystery of this?

What is your CPU model number? And motherboard model? These are required to calculate FSB speeds. Meanwhile use these articles to further your understanding.

The E7500 has a FSB of 1066 MHz.Source. Where did you get the 266 MHz value from?? Install CPU-Z Software and check your FSB value. It is multiplied with the CPU multiplier to get the operating frequency for example, 1066*2.75=2931.5 Mhz or 2.93 GHz.

quad pumped has nothing to do with how many cores you have.

I will try to explain as best I can.....

Modern cpus have two or more cores. These cores connect to each other by the use of cache and back side bus. This structure as a whole connect to the Front Side Bus(FSB) which communicates with the motherboard, ram, gpu, etc. This speed is usually equal to the data processing ability of the cpu. This value multiplied with the CPU multiplier gives the CPU frequency. The FSB transfers data to and from the CPU and other devices(mobo,ram,gpu,etc)

A cpu process data at a fixed rate per unit time (data rate). For example lets say it can count 2 numbers every 1 minute. This data is carried to the cpu by an electrical signal also known as a timing signal or a clock cycle/pulse. Quad pumping is a feature of intel cpus where each clock cycle can carry 4 pieces of data. Your cpu E7500 has FSB of 1066 and quad pumping so the actual data rate is 1066/4=266 MHz. Quad pumping is not related to number of cores but how many data 1 clock cycle can carry. All intel cpus today are quad pumped.

There is obviously a lot of other things going on but this is the simplest way I can explain the essentials to you. I hope you understand.
