Question Why is my computer's power button not working ?

I feel dirty titling my thread this way.

My computer’s power button does nothing. I unplugged the power switch cable and shorted those pins, still nothing. There’s a rainbow LED on the mobo that still cycles when the PSU is turned on, but the system itself won’t power.

I had a spare mobo with a power button built in and CPU on it, so I plugged my PSU into that to test, and that lit up just fine (though I didn’t let it POST because it didn’t have any cooling on it).

I’m thinking that since not even shorting the pins did anything, and the PSU at least powers a different board, that the mobo is shot. Anything I can do to test further before replacing it?

include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.

Please include all parts used in your troubleshooting process. Inspect the sockets for any bent or broken pins. breadboard the system and see if the prior system POST's.

PSU: be quiet! Dark Power 13 850W - just barely shy of 6 months old
Chassis: Some Dragon Rider chassis I got 15 years ago, lost the records for where I got it or what model it actually is
OS: Arch Linux/Windows 10 dual boot (though I only ever use the Linux side these days)
Monitor 1: Samsung UN58MU6100 (HDMI off the AMD card)
Monitor 2: ASUS MG28U (DP2 off the NVidia card)
Monitor 3: LG 29UM67-P (HDMI off the NVidia card)

These things are what the system *normally* runs. The test system was just PSU, mobo, CPU, RAM, CPU cooler, and any cabling needed to plug those in. Nothing works - no fans budge a millimeter, no POST, no lights, nothing. Just a great big ole brick, even breadboarding it.

When I tested the PSU to make sure it worked (which it did), it was with a separate mobo (msi X99A Gaming Pro Carbon), CPU (Intel i7-6950X), and RAM (TimeTec 4x16GB). No cooler.

Edit: I plugged a cooler into the test rig to check power levels on the PSU and to test the 7700XT that I thought might also be shot. PSU levels normal, 7700XT works. Really seems like the mobo is just shot. I dunno what else I can do to test, but if anyone has any suggestions before I go off to get a replacement mobo tomorrow, I’d appreciate it.
