Here are my exact specs:

AMD Athlon X4 860K 3.7GHz Quad-Core Processor (overclocked to 4.1GHz)

Corsair H100i GTX 70.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler

Gigabyte GA-F2A78M-D3H Micro ATX FM2+ Motherboard

Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory

It has a 250gb SSD also.

Well, if those are your exact specs, then how are you even getting a signal to your monitor with no video card?

Sorry about that, here it is: XFX Radeon R9 280X 3GB Black Edition Double Dissipation Video Card

The 280X is a great card. The weak link in your system is the low budget CPU. Even with yours overclocked, an Intel dual core i3 has higher performance. If your temperatures are good and your drivers are up-to-date then there's not much else you can do.

So in order to get better performance, ill have to switch out my board and processor, correct?

It depends on what you want. With your system you should be able to play most games on high settings at 1080P with acceptable fps, maybe not very high fps. If you want to max settings with 60fps in new games then you need better hardware. Nobody would be buying $200 Intel i5 CPU's if they could get the job done with a $70 AMD cpu. Most gamers are in fact using Intel i5.

So do you have a recommendation to what processors work best, with my components?

You could use a setup like this that would be good for at least 4-5 years. Just add your other parts.
