Why is my cpu fan(s) so loud?

I just finished building my first computer, and I turned it on and my cpu fans (I have 2 fans with the Hyper 212 after market cooler)

It is loud right when I start the computer and it's constant. In the BIOS both fans are running around 2,300 to 2500 RPM. This is at idle, and my temps for idle is 34-38 Celsius. I honestly have no clue what is going on.

In the BIOS change it to around 1000rpm. You can manually set them. And since you can't overclock that CPU you don't need them running fast at all. 1000rpm will be fast enough.

Did you plug fans into the mobo or PSU? If PSU, then you can't control them, but if it is your mobo then you can.

Have you plugged the 212 fan into the CPU HEADER fan

At idle that is totally fine. Even at 1000rpm, cooling will never be an issue for you. You aren't overclocking it. For comparison, most overclockers have idle of low 30sC and under load mid 70sC. And that is safe and normal.

One cpu fan is enough. More is a waste. The second fan I'd use to help cool your case and get good air flow from the front. The 200R looks really nice but it isn't able to keep the system as cool as the 300R which has a much more open front that allows lots of air in. So, find a place to use that second cpu fan instead of on the heatsink.

Just curious. Why'd you get the locked cpu? With your build you could have overclocked the K version easily.

Well, this is my first computer, so my main focus was just getting it working, and the 4460 seems like a solid choice. I just figure I might want to try overclocking in the future so that's why I got the z97 motherboard so I just need to replace the cpu.

Hey one more question, would it matter if the fans were 3-pin or 4-pin? I tried changing the speed in the BIOS and that did absolutely nothing.

Are you using the MSI mobo software? I don't use my mobo software to adjust anything. It doesn't run at start up. I do my fan speeds and overclock settings all in the BIOS. I do adjust fans but I do so with a program, Open Hardware Monitor. I suggest downloading it or SpeedFan. They will let you manually set the fan speeds.

Thanks so much! My idea about the 3 vs 4 pin was backwards. I thought with the 3-pin the motherboards automatically controls it, and 4-pin you can control it yourself. Thanks!

You got a great build. You might want to plug the CPU into your NZXT Sentry and control it there (if you switch your CPU to the overclocking one). But since you aren't overclocking the CPU I'd plug the cpu fan into the mobo and set it in the BIOS. Case fans should go into your fan controller.
