Hello,
My i7-975 heats wayy too much.
i already changed 3 heatsinks and fans. all very good. I put a ton of paste on the cpu just like 3 days ago, Temps are very very high. its on 65 while browsing with 1 chrome tab,, can reach 85 when gaming, sometimes get crazy and goes to 100 and then i shut it down.
thats how its been before i changed to the BEST heatsink i had. now its on 50 doing nothing (cpu fan is at 100% always!) and while browsing or trying to get it to do somthing it can jump to 65 easy, but then cool down. and when gaming its around 70 - 80. again, can jump suddenly to 100. but it dosent happen alot.
from my exp, a week after the new paste it starts getting worse and worse, insted of 70 while gaming it goes to 90, i belive the cpu has a heating problem, if this thing exits.
airflow should be great, i had 3 fans getting air out, and 2 getting air in.

Solution
you might have put to much paste on we usually use the pea spot and made sure cooler is well seated on also name and model of case with motherboard .
