Hi guys i have been having an issue lately where in some games my cpu will sky rocket to almost 100% my system is now - i7 7700k 4.2ghz, EVGA UC gaming RTX 2070, mobo - gigabyte z270p-d3. some games like Anthem, Apex legends, siege, division, Bo4. my cpu will jump above 90% and my gpu will be around 80% or even lower sometimes. i recently changed out the mobo and gpu from a gtx 980 to the 2070 and the mobo was an msi h110m VD-PRO plus with my old hardware my cpu would stay between 50-60% and gpu would be 98% or 100%

Additional specs - 16gb ddr4 2400 - 2x8gb ram sticks dual channel. (not same brand but was told that didnt matter)

(side note: wouldnt let me add screenshots through post so i just added URL for them on post instead)

I want to add that in some games like GTA V i put settings to ultra and it ran fine, cpu usage was down to like 50-60% and gpu up to 98+% and was getting about 80-100fps on 1080 (i feel thats kind of low but i watched a video from someone else and they were getting like 10fps lower so idk)

screenshot:
http://prntscr.com/mxfz3q ( gpu usage low cause i just tabbed back into the game) normal sits above 95%

You are getting 190FPS... why in the world would your CPU have to work for that right?
You can push the graphics settings as high as possible as you did with gta to make the GPU a bottleneck or you can just use a frame limiter to like 140 or 120 or something, lower it to wherever you think that your CPU usage should be.

Going to assume this is not trolling and is a legit question:

Your CPU "draws" each frame that is rendered in a game and your GPU is able to get a monstrous number of frames rendered to the screen. Your GPU places a large demand on your CPU and the percentage shows when you take a look. That's why you can't get "bang for your buck" when you buy an expensive GPU to go with a cheap CPU. When you are gaming and your CPU use is 90%+, you are actually getting what you paid all those extra $$$ for- more fps.

Enjoy!

hmm i understand what you guys are saying. maybe im just more used to my lower end computer and since i did just spend all that money to upgrade it maybe im just paranoid. but i still dont get why in anthem my cpu is pretty much maxed but my GPU is reading like 50-60% only really getting 60-80 frames there

ok so im guessing its just optimization for older games that let me hit 200* frames with no problems? like l4d2 was like 250 with 30% cpu usage and overwatch was around the same

Yes. Newer games will be much harder to hit those numbers and also increase the system usage.

MSI optix g24c 24inch curved monitor 144hz 1 ms response time

I would personally cap the fps in games to 144. That will also reduce the CPU and GPU usage.
