why is my double moniter not working

I have 2 monitors (HP 2311x and IBM ThinkVision) and it shows the same thing on both screens. The display section only shows the 1st monitor, and when I drop down the display section it shows the same. Then I tried right clicking on the screen and going into Intel Graphics Properties, and it only shows the 1st monitor. How do I get the monitors to work so I see different things on each monitor?

Right click on your desktop>Screen Resolution

Ensure both monitors show up

Click the drop down menu and select "Extend this display" and click Apply

what windows are you using & what video cables?

windows 7 and a screen splitter I found on Amazon

what video ports as in vga, dvi or hdmi?

switch the 2 monitors around so that the ibm is 1st & the hp is 2nd to see what happens.

it now does not detect the hp monitor...
