hello all!

I've just had a custom computer built. Everything is running just fine except this high pitch noise coming from my HDD. I'm not sure what it is but it is a constant high pitch

sound. There is no clicking or anything else of that matter. Just the constant high pitch as soon as i boot it up and does not stop. Can anyone tell me what this is and if/how

it can be fixed

THANKS!

it hasn't always been this way. i've had the hard drive for almost 4 years now, so it's not in warranty. i've checked all fans and it's definitely the hard drive. any other ideas on how to fix it?

I actually have the same problem. I just installed a brand new WD 500 GB HDD in my Toshiba r830. Upon startup during the bootup all is hear are these high pitched sounds coming from the HD. Is this faulty hardware? Also the 2nd startup resulted in an abrupt shutdown before startup...not sure if that was due to an update, i wasn't paying attention (though not likely).
