Why is my PC screeching like a banshee?

I was listening to some music and out of no where a screeching noise emitted from my headphones. I thought i was part of the song i was listening to, so I shut off my browser, but it continued. I was nervous my damaging my headphones so i shut it off. I turned it back on and it wasn't happening. Could it be my headphones starting to die or is it my PC going crazy? This was the first time it has ever happened to my for any of my PCs that i have owned throughout the years. I was thinking it was my sound card.

Uninstall the audio drivers using device manager

Reboot the computer

does that fix it?
