Why is my processor 4690k at 100%?

Hi, guys, so my build is 4690k paired with a msi gtx-970 4g.
Recently, i don't know since when, whenever i try to play any game, i get stuttering; like my fps drops down to 7-12 fps, sometimes it happens right at the beginning, or sometimes after playing for 5-6 minutes. Since then i''ve used a lot a of tools to find out whats causing it, and it turned out that my cpu gets to 100% whenever i play any game like far cry 5, or even run valley benchmark, even though my gpu usage remains at 50-60%. Using the task manager, i see that one svchost is using up about 50% of cpu & the rest, my game. Then i've used intel processor diagnosis to figure out if my processor is okey or not & it passed the test. Then used Anti-virus software, but no prevail. I don't understand what is causing this? It was all okey just a few days ago, what happened? Any thoughts or solution would be much appreciated. Below i've a added an image from HWmonitor.

Malwarebytes, Hitman Pro, Spybot: Search and Destroy. Run all 3. They are free. Only thing it'll cost you is time. But if that malware survives all 3, do the 'generate report' thing and send the malware to malwarebytes, who will then code a fix. That's how they all work, is by users sending them the junk.

Download/install all of the latest motherboard chipsets from the mobo vendors website. Windows updates can and do cause issues on legacy drivers that are not patched for 64bit OS or workarounds. Audio, Lan and USB are particular culprits.

You mention AV did nothing. Virus and malware are 2 totally different things and affect the pc differently, even if sometimes grouped together under the title of malicious software. Run Malwarebytes and Hitman Pro and SpyBot: Search and Destroy. Between the 3 of them that should catch just about anything.

Hi, i read that article, unfortunately it didn't quite fix my problem. I didn't do any tweaks with my cpu, even though i once intended too, and no one there seemed to offer any suitable solution. And that screenshot was taken after i stopped valley benchmark, while running it, the cores were pretty close with each other, all going over 85 to even 100%. So any other ideas as to what might be causing it?

Every game or just Farcry5?

4c 4t cpus aren't enough anymore in modern multicore games especially FC5. I was getting 95% cpu usage with an 2600k @ 4.5 without HT in that game. HT on, cpu usage dropped to 60ish and fps increase of 20odd with a 1080Ti.

I didn't get massive fps drops at 95% cpu usage but wasn't perfect either not till i enabled HT. In your situation look into overclocking your cpu, should help drop cpu usage down a little bit. Or get an i7 4770k or 4790k.

I would say every game, not that i checked em intensively, did try ac origins, it lagged more than before but not quite as fc 5. Another thing is, even after dropping every visual aspect to the lowest, my fps didnt get stable or high. Sometimes when i do get lucky, the game runs smoothly, but only for a minute or so, then i get lags even in the menu of the game or in the same place of the map where i did get good fps before. Another thing, i did run valley benchmark and that too showed very unstable fps, which didn't happen to an youtuber who seemed to get smooth fps with the same gpu and an even lower cpu.

Can you list your entire build please with the components youve already mentioned along with Windows version, motherboard, ram config, hdd/ssd and space left.

Which antivirus was used?

The Svchost process you've noticed, is it always high usage?

Read through this and see if you can identify the particular svchost service and see whats causing high usage using the cmd command and cross reference each in services browser.

Since you've already done a virus scan it might not be a virus but a chance there is and the antivirus hasn't detected it. Try scan with Malwarebytes.

Or its a driver or service recently installed causing a memory leak. So need to try identify what this svchost process is doing.

Hi, so i think i have pin pointed the problem. It's most probably a malware which is using svchost.exe as a host, i think this are called hollow process, being which my Anti-virus wont detect it. And now, that is a problem because if my anti-virus won't detect it, how am i gonna solve the problem? Only Malwarefox was able to identify it as a hollow process but weren't able to fix it. Any ideas? :??:

A WIndows update was just pushed out recently (18.03); maybe a needed chipset or GPU driver was overwritten....

I'd try redownloading all required chipset drivers and then GPU drivers, perhaps something better optimized was overwritten by a default MS driver...

Okey after trying whole bunch of ems, Malwarebyte was finally able to catch & fix the issue, or so it seems for now. After running through Malwarebyte, i've also executed Malwarefox once more & it didn't catch any hollow process or any issues whatsoever. So i guess the problem is solved. Thanks guys. You are the best...! :bounce:
