Why is my router killing my internet connection?

I recently signed up for Xfinity internet, 200mbps service. I purchased a Motorola MB7220 modem that is advertised to handle a 343mbps and a Belkin N600 Dual Band router, advertised to handle 300mbps connection as well. However, I am getting max 25mbps wireless and 77mbps wired on my PS4 via the router. I called Xfinitiy and was told that everything seems to look good on their end and that things must be bottlenecking at my modem or my router. I was able to connect my PS4 directly to the modem and determined that it is not the modem. What's going that is causing such a dramatic drop in speed after a router is connected?

The ports on the Belkin are 10/100, so it is not capable of speeds greater than 100Mbs via wired connection. You would need to upgrade to a gigabit router to get anything better.

Wireless speeds will be dependent on distance and outside interference, among other factors. The 300Mbs is the advertised max bitrate under only the most ideal conditions, but actual speeds are usually much lower.

Sigh. Newbie lesson learned. Should have done more research before buying. Thanks!
