Why is my second screen pink on certain settings?

hey guys
just set up an extra screen and its all running
If i have the resolution on 1280x720 the screen is fine but looks quite shit
the best resolution is 1024x768 to make it look good but when i change it to that it goes pink
any ideas on how to resolve this issue?

Well it would help to know what hardware you are using such as GPU make/model monitors make/model and such.
