I mean seriously.....its such a simple thing, all I want to do is be able to quickly encrypt and decrypt files and folder s on my PC with no connection or suspected data transfer to the net. I can't find a single solution that is simple and does that. The built in encryption in Windows is no good to me because if I drop dead while I'm logged into my PC (which s almost all the time when I'm home) then someone who comes along (like my family or the cops) can pick up my PC and access my encrypted files no problem ...Also, I use Dropbox, any files in my DropBox folder are automatically stored in the cloud and if I edit a file, the revised version is automatically sent to the cloud. Who's to say there isn't someone at DropBox who can snoop through my sensitive files? Why can't we just encrypt/decrypt locally, using a password to perform the function? Its unbelievable that I can't find this..... I looked at AxCrypt...lol, what a joke, you have to create an account, surprise, surprise.... they even offer a secure password storage feature...encrypted files are JUST the type of files a hacker will want to access...not your muffin recipe....Just another thing lately that makes me crazy.
Anyway, if anyone knows of encryption software that just runs locally and is quick and easy, I would really appreciate any tips.

Sleep after X minutes
Password required to come out of sleep

Also, I use Dropbox, any files in my DropBox folder are automatically stored in the cloud and if I edit a file, the revised version is automatically sent to the cloud. Who's to say there isn't someone at DropBox who can snoop through my sensitive files?
Don't autolink to Dropbox.
Upload only encrypted data.

Have a look at Symantec encryption desktop.

7-Zip allows creation of a AES 256-bit encrypted self-extracting archive...(meaning who you send it to does not even need 7-zip, but, merrely has to enter the password, at which point the file/folder of files is precisely recreated)

Everyone needs 7-Zip!
Thanks, yes I do use it a lot. Good call.

Or, use Veracrypt to make an encrypted 'file' of sufficient space on your drive for your secret recipes/photos, etc., which will show up as another drive once unencrypted and mounted; just be sure to unmount it when done. WIthout the Veracrypt password, data so stored is 100% inaccessible.
