Question Why is svchost.exe draining my RAM on my PC but not my laptop?

I just fresh installed Windows 7 Ultimate (x64) on my desktop and for some reasons there is high memory usage after 5 minutes from booting up and everything slows down because the desktop is constantly swaping pages with the HDD. When I checked resource monitor, apparently svchost.exe was constantly eating anywhere from 700-1100MB of RAM and I don't know why. My IBM Thinkpad runs Windows 7 Ultimate (x86 tho..) and svchost.exe never used up more than 100MB of RAM. Does it have anything to do with my desktop "GPU" with no drivers installed? Should I buy a cheap GPU with Win7 drivers?

Desktop specs:
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 519K
RAM: 2GB DDR2-533
GPU: Intel GMA 900 (drivers unsupported in Windows 7)

Laptop specs:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo L2400 T2300
RAM: 2GB DDR2-667
GPU: Intel GMA 950

Often viruses pretend to be svchost.exe, if you have an antivirus you should run it. It should by in C:\Windows\System32. If not it is most likely a virus.

Can Windows defender detect it? Or am I better off with Avast or something else?

Windows defender is not that great something else would be better
