I heard everyone saying this is the best gaming CPU right now, but why is that? what makes it so good from, lets say a Ryzen 9 5950X. Its only 32 mb more of L3 cache is that really making that much of a difference in gaming performance? Especially when the 5950x has 16 cores and the 7800X3D only has 8? They both have a peak clock speed of around 5.0ghz so I don't understand why the 7800X3D is so much better. I have no clue about technology so I'm just genuinely curious if someone could explain this to me.

It depends on how the game is coded, if it is made for consoles or large ram pools in general then the cache is going to help a lot.
It's not that it improves performance but rather it prevents performance loss from having to swap around data.

(Also the 5950x is the previous generation and far far behind the 7800x3d I think you meant the 7950x )

Most games depend on the single thread performance of the master thread.
With a huge cache available, that thread will rarely wait.
Good for most games.

The down side is that for any other tasks like batch processing the x3d performs much worse than the underlying processor.

So for gaming the 7800x3d and for work station 5950x?

No, I meant the 5950x. So it's just better technology overall since it's a gen ahead or what do you mean?

X3d is over hyped in some cases .. ive got the 5800x3d and 7800x3d and in cache sensitive games its king ..
In everything else it only just okay CPU's like the 13700 13900 13600 and the 14 versions are good in most tasks..

Thats why while the 7950x3d and its cache stacking issues is good for overall the 13900k is the better cpu
