I am studying about processors. I need to know how to distinguish why one processor is faster than another. I would appreciate this explained to me. Is the i7 1.60ghz faster than the i5 2.4ghz and why?

Solution
That is incorrect, judging by the clockspeeds we are talking about mobile CPUs. For mobile CPUs, the i5 is a dual core with hyperthreading. The i7 with that slow a clock rate would be a quad core with hyperthreading. As such, the i7 would be faster in more heavily threaded applications, though the i5 would likely do better in single threaded applications.
