Why is the motherboard not turning on?

I went to go fix my optical drive, by plugging the sata cable into a different port. I then turned the computer on and the case lit up for a split second, and then shut off. My mouse is plugged into the motherboard, and my mouse lights up, so I know the motherboard has power, I just don't know why its not turning on. Is there something I did wrong, or do I need to get a new motherboard? Any advice would help.

Double check all the connections from the PSU, you may have a loose connection causing a short circuit.
