I did my research and had decided to buy a QN85C 85". Yesterday they were in stock at Bestbuy. Today they are completely out of inventory. They still have th QN90C but I have gotten no definitive information as to why this model is 1K more. Everything I read online says the picture is better and brighter. That's about it. Why? Does it use a different panel? Is there something internal that makes the picture better. The guy at Bestbuy said the same thing, the picture is better and brighter. How bright does the picture need to be. The Neo is already supposed to provide a brilliant bright picture. I am going to be replacing a 46" Samsung LN46A650 which was only 46" and 1080P and it is from 2009. This is already going to be a mind blowing upgrade. Is there ANY reason whatsoever to spend an extra 1K??

In-depth comparison between the two;

Is QN90C worth 1K extra over QN85C? No.
Thanks for the reply. I had seen this rtings website keep popping up but had never heard of them before. Still doesn't answer the question about what type of panel they use. I have found bits and pieces of information saying that they are using an ADS panel. Never heard of that before but apparently it isn't ideal. I don't know why Samsung is keeping the panel type a secret. In the world of monitors, panel type is crucial. I agree, not worth the extra 1K.

So just have them deliver it to the house; its free. Or you could get a 77 inch S90C OLED screen for the same price. (I got the 65 inch S90C).

Well, damn. I didn't know I could get an OLED for around 2500 bucks. Now I am researching the S90C. I was looking at the actual difference between 85" and 77". The 85" tv would be about 74" wide and the 77" tv would be about 67" wide.

I have an enormous wall in the living room so I can fit any size tv even up to 100" or more. I sit about 12' away. Again, I have been watching a 46" 1080P tv for the last 14 years so even a 77" tv will be a massive improvement. I have read it is better to buy a bigger tv with less features or picture quality than to buy a smaller tv with more features or better picture quality. BUT when it comes to OLED vs mini LED I am now not so sure.

I only watch tv at night and the only light in the entire living room is a 100W lamp about 15 ft away from me and the tv. I will only be using the tv for tv shows and movies, no gaming on this.

Time to open a can of worms. I consistently see people recommending OLED over LED. Is it really that much better? I am kind of surprised to see a 77" OLED for $2500. I thought they were all around 3K to 4K. Is burn in still an issue on the S90C? I would likely want to keep this tv for at least another 10 years.

Considering I wasn't going to pay the extra 1K for the QN90C the comparison here would be between the following 2 tv's. QN85C 85" or S90C 77". I'll take any feedback I can get here since I wasn't even considering OLED due to the price.

Edit: In regards to the possibility of burn in, I only watch an average of 2 to 3 hrs of tv per night and I only pause the tv long enough to grab a snack or use the restroom. I would assume they must have a screensaver feature as well? Even my old tv has a screensaver come on if I leave it paused for a while.

Just a thought; rather than buying a TV and spending loads of money on it, why not project the screen directly to the wall? 🤔 This way, you can define the image size by yourself and aren't bound to the panel type of the screen itself.

The lamp might be a problem since the Samsung S90C OLED screen is glossy reflective. Maybe you could place it at a location where its off to the side and you won't see its reflection on the screen. I generally use torchiere floor lamps where all of the light is directed up at the ceiling. The main point with OLED is that the black background is really black and invisible. The S90C has built in protections against burn in where if the image is static for too long it will pixel and color shift the image to avoid burn in. There's also an option that you can set for the TV to turn itself off after a period of time that you choose just like your current set.

The lamp is off to the side. Good to know about the burn in protection. Thanks.

I was hoping to get some feedback from people who actually have either of these tv's.
Not many people have those high-end TVs and even less (if any at all) are part of TH community. Better look for feedback either from reviews or stores that sell those.

Never thought about a projector before.
TVs are common, but projector is more versatile. Also, projector can act as home cinema as well.

My S90C was supposed to be delivered today. I bought it on Amazon with scheduled delivery. I ordered it on the 11th, scheduled it for the 16th between 11am to 2pm. The tracking this morning showed that it had shipped and was at a location about an hour from me as of 4am. 1pm Amazon calls and says they can't deliver the tv today. WTF? No explanation why either. Then I get an email stating that there are no available reschedule dates. I lost my patience and called Amazon and asked for a supervisor. He at least was helpful and looked into it thoroughly. He said the shipping depot had no more trucks available. Again, WTF? I ordered this 5 days ago and the Amazon product page still shows this with arrival windows only 2 days into the future. He escalated the issue and said it should be able to be delivered tomorrow. He also issued a $75 credit. Now I am getting texts and emails telling me to reschedule the delivery and when I look at the available dates it is saying Sunday and even Monday are not available. What a mess. Never again Amazon.

All this after I moved my current tv off the stand, moved some furniture and then waited 2 hrs into my scheduled delivery for them to tell me it wasn't going to happen today. This was through Amazon direct and not through a 3rd party. I would have expected something like this through a 3rd party. I have no hope whatsoever that my tv will arrive tomorrow. Now I will have to wait until next Saturday which highly P's me off. The sad part is that you can't order a tv like this anywhere without it having to be shipped from somewhere else in the country. Remember the good old days when stores like Bestbuy actually kept tv's in stock at the store and would be glad to deliver it asap.

I thought you were dealing with bestbuy; they would have it there by Wed 20th if you ordered it today and probably would have had it there yesterday based on your original order date. amazon is only $30 less but if they give you $75 credit it would add up to a significant savings. The problem is that its a 2 person job to carry any of those sets, even the 65" that I got. So they need to have a 2 person truck and crew available.

I was going to go through Bestbuy but nobody keeps these big tv's in stock at the store. It would have to be shipped from who knows where. Amazon had a free service where the delivery guys bring the box inside, open it to make sure it isn't damaged and then place it on your stand. Bestbuy charges $200 bucks for that. I also get 5% cash back with my Amazon store card so that is another $130 or so. I chose delivery today (Saturday) because I can't commit to being home during the week due to work schedule. Amazon had options to have it delivered much sooner than today but obviously any date I picked would have resulted in them not delivering on time. This is a PIA.

Also, there is no excuse for them not delivering on time. I picked a delivery date 3 days beyond what was available. When you choose "scheduled delivery" and are allowed to pick a delivery date and window (mine was 11am - 2pm) an item of this cost should absolutely arrive on time. I have been watching this tv on the Amazon site and it has been available every day since I ordered it with approximate 2 to 3 day delivery times. I wonder how many other people aren't getting their tv's when scheduled?

Another guy from Amazon just called me and said the next available date is Tuesday the 19th. I told him a supervisor assured me he contacted the delivery people and requested Sunday the 17th delivery between 12 and 3. Of course this guy says he sees no record of that. If they keep dicking around they are going to lose a $2600 sale. The supervisor told me the tv was there but just didn't make it on the truck in time for today's delivery. Why the F should I have to wait an additional 3 days for my delivery? That's like cutting in line. MY tv was scheduled for today delivery so if it didn't make it I should get it tomorrow. The guy knew I was pissed so he claims he will contact the delivery depot and request Sunday the 17th delivery. I am not holding my breath.

I don't buy that for 2 seconds. I am in customers homes for my job and almost all of them have huge tv's. I don't think I have seen one less than 55" and a lot of them are 75 to 85". My customers are mostly disabled or on Medicaid. The majority of people here on Tom's pay for high end PC components. I am sure they have nice tv's too.

I get that you're annoyed but ranting about it in TH forums won't fix anything.

As far as Amazon goes, i've been pleased with my orders and shipping. Then again, all my Amazon shipments have been international. I live in Europe and when i buy from amazon.com, shipment starts from USA and it takes easy 2 weeks to cross the pond (Atlantic Ocean) before my order arrives. If item ships from Asia (China), then 1-2 months of shipping time. If from Germany, then 2-3 days shipping. Also, i have to fork out custom fees at my country border for all imported goods i've ordered, that is on top of item price and Amazon shipping fees.
Oh, national shipping, in my nick of the woods, is professional; we get tracking number where to track courier from. And before arrival, courier always calls ahead and asks if anyone is at home to accept the delivery. If not, we can reschedule the arrival.
So, in that sense, i don't see much reason what to rant about.

Not quite.

Just because i and many others have fancy PCs, doesn't instantly mean we all are electronic gurus. Usually it is only limited to PC itself, including myself. Yeah, i have 3 TVs, one of them in storage but i don't watch TV at all (my missus does). So, in that sense, i don't care about other electronics i have, since in the end of the day, my lifestyle is enthusiast computing.

The thing is that everyone today is a subcontractor so there's no real control on the part of the store or amazon. Even my bestbuy tv was delivered by a couple of guys driving an Enterprise leased truck. It sounds like amazon has poor control over the subcontractor and its no better than the guys delivering the small packages. Best of luck!

This was sold by Amazon, not a third party. As to whether they use subcontractors for large item deliveries I don't know. Everyone that has contacted me so far regarding the delivery was calling from Amazon, not a freight company. I read a lot of positive reviews about Bestbuy delivery. It said tv's were delivered by the Geek Squad and brought in and set up but that is a $200 service now. I don't know who would bring the tv if that service wasn't selected.

So now my choice is to wait until next Saturday for Amazon delivery and pay roughly $2400 due to the $75 credit and $130 cash back on Amazon store card OR purchase from Bestbuy and pay roughly $2800 total. For now I will see if Amazon can pull their heads out of their arses and get this delivered next Saturday.

I recently bought a 77" s90c at Costco.
My cable is not yet hooked up but I can get some video via the included wifi.
The picture is stunning. Of course, it will depend on the source.
It looks good to me and it is HUGE.
If you are sitting 15 feet away, like I do, I think it is an appropriate size.
My use is not for gaming, but, there seem to be lots of settings to enhance gaming.

I don't have a Costco membership. I saw on another forum that tons of people say Costco would be the number one place to buy especially with the extra warranty. I couldn't view the price without signing in but I found a video of a guy at at Costco and it showed the price at $2800. That is quite a bit more than what I am seeing at Amazon and Bestbuy at around $2600 right now.

As of last night Amazon had changed my new delivery date to Saturday the 23rd at my request. I check my order page today and they have it scheduled for Wed the 20th. This is getting beyond ridiculous.

In the event I give up on Amazon and buy somewhere else I might just start looking at other tv's too. I am reading a lot of complaints about the remote and the tv menu. Things like not being able to change inputs without going through multiple screens in the menu.

I know the LG C series is highly rated but I just looked on Bestbuy and it is 1K more than the Samsung. I wasn't considering other brands because I have always had good luck with Samsung and my current TV has made it 14 years and counting. Anybody else have recommendations?

I probably am ranting a bit, but I think other people viewing this post should have an accurate play by play of the issues I have had with Amazon. I am adding another post shortly to document the actual issue. I typically disregard bad reviews as it is inevitable there will be a few bad products in any batch. In this case I think people should be warned of the issues dealing with Amazon instead of a local store.

My delivery date got changed again. My order page shows delivery scheduled for Thursday. I called customer service and asked for a supervisor in the heavy/bulky department. He told me straight up what the issues were unlike the rest of the emails and phone calls that were generic and nobody gave a <Mod Edit>. First he told me that it was highly likely that a Saturday delivery would just keep getting cancelled because they might not have the staff or trucks for weekend deliveries. I asked him why is it possible to pick a Saturday or Sunday for a scheduled delivery if they can't accommodate. He agreed but didn't give me a straight answer. He made a call and confirmed that the area I live in is available for Saturday delivery. He said the actual issue is that the tv arrived with no manifest. They had the tv last Saturday but aren't allowed to process it for delivery without a manifest. Is this true? Sounds reasonable. He says they now have the manifest and it is available for Saturday delivery. The crazy part is he told me he was putting ANOTHER $75 credit on my account. I told him I already received one and he said it was done, use it or not. Now that brings the price of the tv down to $2319. That was not the reason for my requesting a supervisor but I'll take it. He also said it looked like someone in the back office kept changing the delivery date. He sent an email to the manager of the back office and told them not to reschedule the delivery again. We shall see if Amazon can make this right. No tv on Saturday = cancel order and go to BB even if it costs $500 more.
