Why is the UK so expensive?!!!

So Im from the UK and want to buy the new GTX 1080 and after seeing the price of £619 I was confused as in the US, the card is only 699$

Thats OVER 200$ MORE than the prices in the US! Over 30% more expensive here!!!!

Why?

uk is not expensive its the people that try to reselll it that put the custom price up

Once the cards actually have an available stock the prices will come back down.

difference between UK and US, EU and VAT.
similar price differences happen elsewhere in EU too and they are not limited to cutting edge hardware. (although hidden better since good deals can drop price dramatically)

The UK has much higher taxes (20% VAT) and shops buy quantities that are a small fraction of those bought by US shops so no economies of scale. The US cost of living is much higher though so why we pay VAT they pay in other ways.

Cost of living is only higher in some of the more densely populated cities. In general, I'd say it's probably cheaper.

The cost of staying alive (or trying to :-V ) is a different story....

utilities? europeans are the ones i find crying about electrical costs etc. most often.


such things are cheaper here.

you can make an argument about medical costs though.
