Why is this Radeon HD 7970 so cheap?

I was looking to buy a Evga GTX 670 FTW for £299 in amazon.uk but i came across Gigatybe 7970 3GB OC and its only £308 with £381 price cut. Which one should i buy and also i was just curious in why the 7970 is so cheap. cheers

AMD have cut prices on all their cards and have bundled them with games...
Go for the Radeon 7970...

yeah, you'll get 120 dollars worth of games with the 7970. plus, it's generally considered the better card. (if you go multi-card, Nvidia is better cause it has less microstuttering, but we're not discussing that)

and yeah, you'll need at least a 600w bronze for a system with that card, preferably a 700w psu.

Lol i wouldn't say that a 7970 is cheap but "desperate times call for desperate measures" lol just kidding!I think it's because they are always out there willing to sell their product less than NV and that way they make more sells maybe.

i dont think anyone will buy a 670 until nvidia lower prices... Their 670 and 680 are way off... 670 should drop to $330-350 and 680 should drop to $370-400 because we are getting top end radeons for $380...

The 660 Ti is priced fine though... $270 isnt very bad...

what does psu efficiency have to do with it? As long as the psu has robust enough 12V rail it doesn't really matter how much it draws from the wall socket...

when your power supply is on full load efficiency does matter...

You underestimate the power of both fanboyism, brand familiarity, and personal preference (as well as needs). I agree the 670's overpriced, but people still buy them all the time.

It matters for your power bill and nothing else. Efficiency has nothing to do with how much the power supply can output, only how much it needs to draw to achieve that output. On this topic, a good 500W power supply is more than enough for a 7970, but I'm sure the OP can determine his needs better than we can.

That said, you should still look up benchmarks for the games you like to play most and see what you can expect from both.

i bought a gtx 660 ti and here i am recommending a radeon card... im not a fanboy... the 7970 has much better value now...

Please don't. There are much better power supplies available - I don't have a personal vendetta against OCZ, but their PSUs are not that great (unless you want to get into their top-of-the-line models). PC Power & Cooling (which is, ironically, owned by OCZ now) has a great modular 600W unit (the 500W model isn't advisable - it is, in actuality, a 450W unit).

There are other, cheaper alternatives as well: anything from Seasonic and XFX is high-quality; Antec and Corsair have some great power supplies, too (not every one of them - just most).

Good call, the 7970 is significantly more capable than the GTX670 and absolutely worth the extra money. Plus expect AMD to fix the micro stuttering in future driver releases should you ever want to CrossFire like I have in future.

where is the best place to get one of these babies. I was initially going with a 7950 in my setup but a guide had a low enough price tag but I cannot find a good seller within my desirable price range
