Question Why is WIndows 11 so much slower than WIndows 10?

I get that Windows 11 was born demanding more from computers than Windows 10, but there must be a point where Windows 11 gets faster somehow, through updates or something.

Is that why WIndows 11 is so much heavier than Windows 10?

try cancelling all unnecessary processes through Task Manager and/or Services.
if nothing helps it's likely just improper system drivers, outdated BIOS, corrupted OS, etc...

i didn't notice much difference in actual speed while browsing, typing, gaming.
just tons of junk running in the background hosting news services and other ad based bloatware.

I've not noticed any slowness between 10 and 11.

I suppose the main difference between OS's here is the loading time, providing you have an SSD, loading time will be great on both. Once the OS is loaded things are pretty much equal.

I've noticed the opposite, windows 11 being much faster than 10. Greatest difference is booting up. Is booting up any slower on windows 11? If not maybe its something running on the PC, but id say hardware may be the issue. I know when i upgraded from 8 to 10 on a HDD it had slowed down to a crawl but put it on a SSD and poof all the slowness went.

Maybe check out task manager and see if anythings eating up your resources. Pending updates seem to slow down the PC too, sometimes get slowness or issues when an upgrade hasnt been applied, but thats in an enterprise environment. Disk space too, we see slowness creep in when it is near capacity

Win 11 is no slower than Win 10 on my machine. Not sure what is supposed to be "slower" about it.

I have experience this on old hardware. Windows 11 doesn’t like older hardware. You have to have a more modern system.

on old hardware it may perform poorly if you have enabled virtualisation in bios as it has to emulate MBEC hardware security which old CPUs are missing, thats about 50% performance gone
win 10 for some odd reason emulates MBEC aswell, but performance degradation is lower
easy solution is to disable virtualisation in bios

it depends on what you mean by slower.
if the network is slower and you use wifi then I would expect the change to be due to the reduced transmit power for the wifi

you might consider running your system in high performance mode to see if it has any effect.
if it does then you would tweak the settings on the network card.

you could also move the machine closer to the router (1 meter) and see if it has an effect.
the transmit power is (1/(radius ^2)) function so reducing the power really drops the transmit rate as the distance to the router increase.
at range your machine might be able to see the router ie receive packets, but not be able to send packets at high speed due to the lower transmit power in windows 11 (new defaults)

sometimes the new windows goes to a lower power (states deeper sleep state) but people need to update the bios and drivers so that the system will properly go back to a higher power state.

It isn't slower than windows 10... in my experience it's the opposite, at worst it's the same.

Do you have any measurements of something specific that you experience running slower? It's hard to help if you do not specify or at least hint to something being slower...

Actually, in my case, when I switched from Win10 to Win11, the newer OS felt faster.

probably virtualisation software emulation is kicking from win defender...could be also some driver issue aswell

It's also Windows 11 running on unsupported hardware, and it's likely Microsoft didn't include any scheduling hints for the Bulldozer family for Windows 11.

Its so not different to 10 that I still forget I am using 11, and its been almost 2 years now.
Comes a time you stop upgrading software and just use what you have. If win 11 not supported, why fight it, and why expect same results as supported hardware?
