[SOLVED] Why isn't my microphone working?

My mic, tested on another rig, is being detected by windows 10, but I cannot get it to detect sound. When I listened to it I either hear nothing or static (my speakers were also tested). When I go into control panel, ..., recording, the green sound level on the mic goes all the way up then down and doesn't pick any noise up after that. here's a list of what I have tried:

Update drivers from manufacturer
update motherboard audio drivers
checked mic privacy settings (never off)
checked for damage (works in other rig)
restarted
updated sugg. drivers via win update

Where is your mic connected to ? Front panel or back ?

I would also ask if this is a USB Mic? Check what apps are running in the background. I have found a lot of times another app is reserving the microphone and essentially takes over.
