Question Why isnt my vga to hdmi+hdmi to display port not working

So basically right now I have a vga to hdmi connected to a hdmi to display port. When connected the monitor works for about 5 seconds then goes to sleep and doesn't come back on. Is it because theres too many adapters connected? Any help for it to work that way or I have to get a vga to display port? Reason being is because I don't want to keep disconnecting my monitor from my gpu to use my oculus rift and my oculus doesn't work with hdmi to display port.

Stacking adapters usually has a low rate of success in my experience.
