Why no 2001fp review?

A large size, almost affordable, flat screen with 16ms and very wide viewing angles seems to me to be a big departure from past large screen LCDs. So why no review from Tom's? It seems like the only buzz about this monitor can be found in various hardware forums. Anand did do a review of this monitor but I can't find much else out. I thought a monitor like this would attract much more attention.

Currently it is only available with the purchase of a Dell PC. While I have read a few people who have managed to get hold of it separatly, they are the exception, not the rule.

I called Dell to enquire as I am in the market for a screen, they advised me that the above is due to high demand and they needed to give priority to PC customers. The customer service guy said they expect to sell them separatly in January (ie soon).

I suppose when they are available for general purchase we will see more reviews.

Where are you? In the US you can definitely buy them seperate from PCs. $999 on both Dell home and small business sites and they're on sale for 10% off online (it does say 15% off LCDs but it doesn't give you that when you check out). People have been buying them since September.

Hmm - I'm in Australia, I suppose it must be a regional thing.

So that said, I wonder why no reviews - I think this might be the screen for me but I haven't read enough yet to make me commit!

Here's the review.

The 2001fp is the best big screen lcd you can get that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. There is some ghosting on it in games so if you want no ghosting you still have to get a CRT.

I personally think the monitor is overhyped. At first everyone was saying that it was perfect and then as everyone jumped on the bandwagon we found out that it does have ghosting in games.

It used to be found for $750. I'm not sure if that was with a PC purchase though. Now it seems to be $999.

2001fp was for $750 at Dell Small Business because there was a 25% off sale when it first became available separately from a system.

ohhhh how nice it would have been to pick one up for $750. Oh well.

I found a review on cnet. They don't seem that thrilled about this monitor. Here's the link.

At this point in time, any consideration of an LCD screen has to be from the premise that ALL consumer LCD has ghosting - it's just a relative consideration of how much better it is than other models.

To be annoyed at the 2001FP because it has ghosting is like being annoyed that your new super light notebook isn't in fact weightless 😉

I was under the impression that people were saying it didn't have ghosting. The response time was supposed to be good enough. It wasn't.

That's what elliminated it from my wish list.

That would have been disappointing. About 6 months ago some people jumped down my throat in a whirlpool.net.au forum for asking what panel had the least ghosting - they collectivly sugested I was stuck in 2001 and that no screens had ghosting now!

Regardless, the reality is that they all have it, certinaly in any price range I could even dream of. I ordered 2 of the 2001FPs from Dell US today - not available for 3-4 weeks min here in Aus, my friend and I decided to take advantage of the weak US dollar :) US$850 is less than even a Samsung 192N 19" here (non DVI, lower res)

I got one of them when they were $750, great monitor. I game a lot and have no problems with ghosting. One kick ass monitor!

For that price you could get so many other monitors that it's not even worth considering. I could pretty much get 3 or 4 21" monitors.

Don’t have an idea whats wrong…have installed correct driver, I am using 60hz recommended, got only analog connection available, have tried all scale from 800x600 to the maximum resolution and nothing helps…even tried when monitor about 90 cm away, and even that wasn’t resolution…and now its about 50cm away from me and using 1024x768…any ideas?

Just a quick question. I just haven't been able to find out.

How many colors does the Dell monitor have?

Is it 18 bit or does it have 16.2 million colors?

yah i just saw! you gotta pay tax on the business site though. so it's $847.15(USD) or something like that. Still better than before though, either way I think I'll wait some more.
