I think Geforce 9400 GT is very good card. I have been using it from past 5-6 months and here are some games i can play without any lag

Gears Of War (1280x1024)

Burnout Paradise (1440x1024 with 4x AA)

Ashes Cricket 2009 (1440x1024)

Modern Warfare 2 (1440x1024 with AA on)

Devil May Cry 4 (1440x1024) GTA IV (1024x768)

And abosulute no lag in these games. So why this card has so bad ratings!! BTW i have 4 GB Ram & 2.6 GHZ Dual COre processor & Vista Ultimate.

All the games you mentioned are not that GPU intensive. And I bet that you play those games at some reduced level not with all the GPU settings to max. Us who invested more into our GPUs will tell you that we are not satisfied with a GPU if it can't push a game to it's limits. I for example will change my 1 year old 4870 (imagine 4870 = 4x9400GT) with a 5850 because my 4870 is not able to power all my games at 1680x1050 with full detail and at least 4xAA. This is an enthusiast forum so you will find out that here the 9400GT is not up to the tasks we will give it.

Those games that you listed are not intensive, most are console ports and do not represent the quality game play when developers exploit a computers potential. For example install Crysis and your PC will cry at very low settings despite the game being 3 years old, GTA IV and Farcry 2 will also make your 9400 GT cry like a baby.

Also the 9400 GT has a bad stigma because there are Direct X9.0 video cards that are 6 years old that outperform it with relative ease.

In short, this is why we say it sucks. The 9400 GT is at the bottom of the list

^Perfect example.

How comes you run @ GTA IV 1024x768 but all your other games at higher resolutions? Sounds like a struggling video card 😀 😀

You know what I found strange when I was still useing my 8600GTS? The fact that GTAIV ran better @ 1280x1024 then it did @ 1024x768 on the same settings. Funny isin't it?

To be fair 1280x1024 is considered low resolution these days the REAL gamers were playing at 1280x1024 5 years ago and have graduated to 1680x1050 and 1920x1200 :)

OK, now you're just masterbaiting... 😀 😀

thnx everyone for your answers, i think i might go for ATI 5750 because it dx11 card and kinda good card near to my budget :)

BTW lol it looks like 5750 performs 3 times faster then 9400 GT

I think the GTS250 uses way less power, and can stay cooler then a 5750... Or was it the 4870 I'm not sure... Let me check. If it is so, then the GTS250 is a better run for your money down the road, as it uses way less power.

8600GT and 8600GTS are two different cards. The 8600GTS is the DDR3 version that comes factory-overclocked.

huh are you insane

the 5750 uses less then half the gts 250's power to achieve the same performance

i know this post is very old, but i just wanted to say something i am the owner of 9400gt, and i play many games like Crysis 2, COD Black ops and NFS Shift 2, sure it has OCCASIONAL lag, but its fine for me, i dont need to play at super high resolutions, 1280x1024 is fine i see no point in spending loads just to play games on a high res, im only gunna buy a new card when have to in order to play games, but that time isnt now. Also, having Super high res AMAZING quality graphics doesn't make you a gamer! All you guys who spend more than £100 on a gpu to play a game with better graphics, should just remember not every one is as rich as you, and some people dont like to spend money on high resolutions!
