Working as IT Amateur for a long time, repaired more than 500 devices, phones, tablets, mostly desktops and laptops, BUT...
Untill now i can't understand, "WHY SOME COMPUTERS ARE FASTER THEN OTHERS?"
I mean, yeah, better cpu, ram, hdd/ssd and stuff, alot of things mater when it comes down to speed, but.. i found that some computers even with dual core 1.2 can be faster and smoother than a quad core 2.5..
Recently i got an OLD laptop, amd 2 core 1.2 with 2gb(just installed) of ram and 60gb disk which made me open my eyes wide open of impression, not as fast as my PC 2500k 8gb and SSD raid, but still so smooth and responsive that it was a pleasure to work with, which doesn't even compares to some quad core new pc's that i worked with, so WHY some computers are so smooth and fast even though are way weaker in components than others?
NOTE: i compare the computers on fresh and fully formated HDD

Lots of things can play in, I still occasionally run into some old rigs that are lightning fast that you wouldn't expect. The OS can play in (is it tuned? i.e. have unneeded processes been disabled, only running bare minimum drivers). Start up items good and clean so they don't just sit and eat DRAM. I agree with you, I've seen many that amazingly fast and smooth where I expected it to be a dog (no disrespect to my canine friends intended, they tend to bite 😉 )
With the formated HDD you may have some newer drivers missing, leading to some components that were polished and shipped perfect performing better then some newer parts, like AAA games now days.
