Question why the difference in cost of graphic card of same type

I'm about to upgrade my gtx 970 to a gtx 1070. The price range of this card is between approximately $300.00 to about $600.00. Can anyone tell me if there is a actual difference in the graphic cards or am I just paying extra for the brand name? Thanks in advance.

You also have to watch for 3rd party sellers , jacking up the prices.

There are small differences in the cost of cooling equipment. RGB lighting adds some. Performance wise there is little to no difference. Anything more than $50 is not worth the extra cost for the same line. Something exotic like a liquid cooled GPU might be worth an extra $100.

The huge price differences are wishful thinking.

All GTX 1070 are name brand. It just a matter of which name.
