Well there is a couple of reasons:

1. 2ghz +
2. 0.13 micron
3. All copper
4. small notebook socket
5. Serial ATA
6. PCI-X , 64-bit PCI, 8x AGP
7. Big 512kb L2 cache
8. 400mhz , 533mhz Front Side Bus
9. Up to 6ghz or even 10ghz i hear.
10. Needs low power
11. Looks very upgrade friendly
12. Only $200.00 - $250.00
13. Chip should run very cool with standard HSF
14. Overclocking friendly
15. DDR-SDRAM 200mhz +
16. QDR-SDRAM ???

That is some stuff.

Northwood P4 + i845(brookdale)+ 200mhz DDR-SDRAM + ATi Radeon 2 = Dream Team

Also i forgot this stuff:

17. USB 2.0
18. Double pumped ( ALU )
19. OEM will have huge support for it.
20. Most motherboards have beta socket 478 coming.

No doubt Northwood is mouthwatering, but your SDRAM points are not quite correct. Northwood (scheduled for intro in Q4 '01) will only support RDRAM! We have to wait for the Brookdale version for SDRAM support. Brookdale-SDR should be validated by Q1 2002 (although I can't imagine why they are bothering with SDR!) and Brookdale-DDR is scheduled to become available around Q3 2002.

Well guess what Brookdale will only support SDRAM, the i850e is the RDRAM chipset for northwood but will never see the light. heck i would rather have PC100 sdram over PC800 rdram. So brookdale will come out early and rule the day. Heck i'll even buy a SiS or ALi chipset if i have too.

All of this is of course incorrect. The RDRAM chipset will be the first released, in Q3 of this year. It will be the high performer. The SDRAM chipset is due out later some time, possibly as late as Q1 of 2002. It will be targetted for the cheap system price point. It's performance is heavily lacking due to the poor performance of SDRAM.

Well i here Broookdale could support PC1600 sdram. Seems intel is having problems getting memory to work in 133mhz. Well i will buy ALi or SiS for a DDR or SDRAM mobo. I hate RDRAM and i choose not to buy i dont care if it kills proformace.

That's what he just said..... I advise you to read the posts you're replying to a little more carefully.

So true! I've been saying it for weeks - smaller, faster, cheaper, cooler. I think that sums it up. Most of the other benefits (serial ATA, USB2.0, PCI-X etc) will be implemented into Socket A boards by 3rd parties.

I agree though, the P4 might have a very good upgradability path if they don't change the socket or bus too much. You might well be able to swap your 2GHz Northwood for a 6GHz Northwood in a few years, provided they don't switch to socket 483 :)

I doubt Intel will ever make a chipset supporting DDR. It would probably perform almost as well as RDRAM, which Intel is trying to show in a good light. DDR is more likely the technology of future AMD systems, and as for QDR, this will never be used with a P4. Why? Loads of people are gonna buy Northwood which will bring down the price of RDRAM.

I think once we see the prices of memory (DDR, PC133, RDRAM) within a few dollars of each other then all the fuss/opposistion to RDRAM will quickly go away.
