I have an asus M5A97 R2.0 witch has ALC887 and my music system sound about twice lower sound that with my old Gygabyte mobo witch has ALC883.so i wonder why is that even that mobo is from 2006 or older, and asus mobo is from 2011-2013. and ALC887 is not even on Realtek website

Solution
The Realtek ALC887 chip is probably customised for ASUS. Realtek do not list drivers for their customised chips, only the standard ones. That's why you should use drivers from the motherboard manufacturer, not the device manufacturer.

If you're not happy with the volume level, install a sound card and disable the integrated one in the BIOS settings.

I think I need the same advise too. I have a NV76R series Gateway and after upgrades of Windows 8.1 and now 10 the volume level is shot. So when I pull up the control panel and go under Volume Mixer: When I look at the Device slide it's going up but under Application: Systems Sound never moves anymore and it used to. Last Whatever Application I have up Music, VLC will show and it's slide will be moving up and down too. Before the installs All 3 would move and be loud enough to throw a small party, Now I can't hear instructions on a video with headphones. I even went to Gateway's site for updates but ofcourse all are 4 years old. Please help. Not an expert savvy. Thanks
